Having major boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11?

Post by dbs93 »

Having major boot issues after trying to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11. The installation seemed to go okay, but now my PC just gets stuck on a black screen with a spinning circle. Sometimes it flashes a quick error, I think it said "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" before restarting. I can't even get into safe mode. Any ideas on how to fix this or roll back without being able to log in?

Quick tip: That's a tough one, usually caused by a driver conflict. Your best bet is to boot from your Windows 10 installation USB and use the repair options to try a system restore or roll back to the previous build.

This. Did you try booting into safe mode to see if that gets you past the black screen?

This. I had the same problem. I ended up having to use the installation media to roll back to Windows 10, then I updated all my drivers before trying the upgrade again.

Agreed. Yeah, that error usually points to a driver or disk issue. Try booting into safe mode and rolling back the display or storage drivers.

+1 This happened to me. I fixed it by booting from a Windows 10 USB and doing a startup repair, which rolled back the upgrade. Let me know if that works.

Agreed. You could also try clearing the CMOS on your motherboard, as a BIOS setting might be causing the drive conflict.

Thanks! I made the USB, but when I try the system restore it says there are no restore points available. What should I do next?
