Has anyone else had major slowdowns after upgrading to Windows 11? My laptop was?

Post by up04578517 »

Has anyone else had major slowdowns after upgrading to Windows 11? My laptop was fine on Windows 10, but now it's constantly freezing for a few seconds, especially when opening File Explorer or switching browser tabs. The fans also seem to run louder. I don't see any specific error codes, just this general lag. I've already checked for driver updates. Any ideas on what might be causing this or how to fix it?

From what I've seen, I had this issue on my older laptop after upgrading. From what I have seen, it's often a driver or background process problem, even if you checked for updates. A clean install of Windows 11 instead of an upgrade usually fixed it for me.

+1 A clean install can definitely help, but have you checked your power plan settings to make sure it's not stuck on a power-saving mode? Let me know if that works.

Agreed. Yeah, that's a solid point. Also, try disabling any unnecessary startup programs in Task Manager—that can free up a surprising amount of resources. Let me know if that works.

+1 I had the same problem. A clean reinstall of Windows 11, instead of the upgrade, made a huge difference for me. Hope that helps.

This. Agreed, a clean install often fixes weird upgrade bugs. Also, try checking for driver updates from your laptop manufacturer's website, not just Windows Update.

Can confirm. Yeah, a clean install can help, but have you checked your power plan settings? Windows 11 sometimes switches to a balanced mode that can cause lag.

Can confirm. I had the same problem. A clean install made a huge difference for me, and turning off some of the new visual effects helped too.

Glad I'm not alone. Same issue on my PC.
