I ran into this a while back. I had this issue with an older ASUS board. From what I've seen, the Z170-A usually has a firmware TPM that's locked at version 1.2, so you can't upgrade it to 2.0. +1 This happened to me too. After doing that, I also ran the Windows Update troubleshooter before trying the upgrade again and it finally worked. Good luck!

I had the same problem. My old CPU wasn't on the supported list either, and I had to use a workaround to get the install to go through. Good luck!
